Inventory for Michael Chiago (Born: 1946)
Information on Michael Chiago was best presented on his now vanished website from which this quote was drawn. He "is one of very few Southern Arizona Indian painters to achieve national recognition. His background includes a stint as an Indian fancy dancer that included performing at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, barber school, and study in commercial art at Maricopa Community College. He was born in the Kohatk Village on the Tohono O’odham reservation. His tribal lineage is Tohono O’odham, Pima-Maricopa. The Tohono O’odham reservation is roughly the size of Connecticut with a population of about 27,000."
"Michael had a recent exhibit at the 2012 Art en Capital~Salon du Dessin et de la Peinture à l’Eau, in Paris, France on Nov 27-Dec 2, 2012."
"This exhibit included 12 American Indian artists from the United States and Canadian First Nations artists working in water-based paint on paper. This represents the second delegation of American Indian artists ever to exhibit during this invitation-only event, one of the most prestigious art shows in the world."

For information on the Tohono O'odham (formerly the Papago) I highly recommend "The Tohono O'odham and Pimeria Alta." The book is available at Amazon. All proceeds benefit the Arizona Historical Society.
