COMMENTS:
Illustrated in Thomas Cravens, A Treasury of American Prints. Of this print, Craven wrote, "Costigan, with his intensely sincere approach to home subject matter, is the ideal man to deal with the 'barefoot boy, with cheek of tan.' Jackie is a study of the artist’s small son. The subject wears an immense straw hat, reminding us that the Costigan's are practical farmers, and that Jackie probably sat for his father after helping out with a good day’s haying." Daniel Costigan (2000) states that this print was created in 1931 and was twice printed. The first time in 1931, in an edition of 90. The second printing, in 1939, published by Associated American Artists, was in their usual edition of 250. We are assuming that this print is from the second 1939 edition.
