Comments:
Very good condition. Good margins. A deep impression printed on cream Japanese laid paper. Possibly a trial proof for Koehler's volume published in 1883 (see references). Beautifully and expertly produced by Moran, this print employs line etching, roulette, a sandpaper ground, drypoint, and retroussage with black ink. The title, as displayed above, has been penciled onto the lower front margin of the sheet and in a hand other than Moran's. Alternate titles for this print are The Coyote - Arizona and The Desert, Arizona. Documented in Klackner's catalogue (1889 #27a), discussed in Bruhn (1985). Later described in the Gilcrease catalogue by Morand and Friese (1986 #36), this print agreeing favorably with Gilcrease item 1426.411b as illustrated and listed.
