Comments:
Very good condition. Margins, as issued. A fine impression on white wove paper, mounted, by the artist, onto a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" paper. Circa 1953 Partridge put together a portfolio of his graphic work for his son Padraic (Padraic was the son of Roi Partridge and his wife, photographer, Imogen Cunningham), and that this item was the opening page of that collection. Neither the print, the mounting paper, nor the glue are showing any evidence of degradation, toning, or discoloration. (Note: Roi Partridge and Imogen Cunningham were married in 1915 and divorced in 1934.)
The print reads: "Now a Hopi Messenger with Greetings Comes From Imogen and Roi Partridge."
The title of this print derives from the catalogue raisonné by White (1988:247). The word "katchina" is now a somewhat archaic spelling of the currently popular spelling "katsina." The doll depicts the Hopi Poli Katsina (Butterfly Katsina) with an exaggerated tabilta or headdress common to older dolls.
It is probably safe to say that no other copies of these prints survive today.
