Comments:
Excellent condition. Good margins. Printed on cream wove paper. Appears to have never been neither matted nor framed. The signature immediately beneath the center of the image seeming to indicate a later printing date, probably the 1950's (for discussion see Millman and Bohn 1994). No monogram visible. Done while John Winkler was visiting the London area between 1925 and 1928. Pickle Herring Wharf is located on the Thames River, London. The print won a silver medal in 1930 from the Printmakers of California. Occasionally erroneously titled Pickled Herring Wharf, however I see no "d" in the plate title. Also, Pickle Herring is a place (try Google or your search engine of choice). Not referenced in Millman and Bohn 1994. A beautifully executed print.
