Comments: Excellent condition. Two tack holes, upper left and right, a result of the artists attachment to a board while painting. Tape on the reverse indicates that the watercolor was matted at some time. The painting appears to have not seen the light of day for a very long time and may have been in flat storage for quite a few years.
The image depicts a corral on Pete's Ranch (off of Prince Road in Tucson - now condominiums) the Santa Catalina Mountains rise in the background. Pete moved to Tucson in 1935 while he was still involved in the national rodeo network. In the 1930's Martinez created quite a few etchings over time however he moved more and more toward painting - perhaps influenced by his next door neighbor Maynard Dixon.
