"Reaching for the Sky" 1933, Etching. Edition: Not stated, but probably less than 20. Signed in pencil, Pedro Martinez, lower right; titled, "Reaching for the Sky," lower left. Artifacts apparent in the plate, copyright symbol lower left of center, use of somewhat hidden monogram and date in the plate, looping PM and 1933, hidden in the lower right dust up from the bronc.
Comments: Very good condition. Good margins. A strong impression on appropriately aged wove paper. An early etching by Pete Martinez here signed Pedro Martinez. In 1933, Pete was in the early days of his art and rodeo career and would often randomly alternate the use of his first name from Pete to Pedro. In later years he pretty much stuck to Pete.
