Comments:
A beautifully executed double portrait of two Pueblo women by Taos, New Mexico, artist Joseph Imhof. Perhaps best known as a graphic artist, Imhof was an accomplished artist in a variety of mediums, as evidenced by this drawing. The Native American women illustrated are almost certainly from Taos Pueblo. Very good condition. Drawn full sheet on white laid paper using black and brown charcoals. The portrait was, at some distant time, laid down (glued) onto a cardboard backing. Neither the art nor the art paper currently show a reaction to this acidic backing however it is a condition to consider.

There is some discrepancy in how Imhof's name is to be spelled. It is common to see the name presented as "Imhoff" (two F's). That is apparently an incorrect spelling of  his name. His name, as placed on art, and his fathers name, was spelled "Imhof" (one F). Here spelled correctly - Imhof.
